My Hometown

I'll admit that I had some guilty pleasures. One of them is the show The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. I love that show. I know it's not real and I know it's not going to work out and be happily ever after. I honestly don't care if it is or not. I just like watching it and laughing...and shaking my head a lot.

So what does that have to do with my hometown? In case you don't watch, one of the eligible bachelors is from Philadelphia. Yeah, my hometown. I loved seeing it on the hometown dates episode. I love Philly! I love living here. My husband and I were talking while he was cooking last night. We were saying how we could never picture ourselves leaving Philly, which a lot of people we know have done. One of the major reasons would be the convenience of every little thing. Just the other day I drove to the credit union, which only takes 10 minutes. On the way back, we stopped at 3 different library branches to check out some books. I can get to at least 5 grocery stores in 10 minutes and most of those grocery stores have stores in different little sections of my part of Philly that I can get to all within 10-15 mins. I have so many produce places at my finger tips. I can actually walk to some. We are close to several bus routes if I ever needed to put my butt on a bus.

Then there's those perks of being from Philly. The food. I am within a 5 minute walk to Wawa which is a blessing! There's those Tastykakes at my fingertips, REAL soft pretzels not those frozen kind in the grocery store, and one of my favorites.....Rita's Water Ice. If you don't know, you can check out Rita's on line but you have to actually HAVE a Rita's water ice to get it. You'll never ever get it if you don't actually have one.

Then there is the pizza places. There must be one on every corner and at least one in the middle of the block. You can get all kinds, any kind of pizza here. We have those franchise places if you want them but we have real pizza shops.

The convenience of being so close to several malls, the convenience of being 2 hours from the mountains and 1 1/2 hours from the shore, just another one of the perks. You can walk or ride a bike to almost anywhere here, it's not like you'd be lost in the middle of nowhere if you went for a bike ride. I live down the street from a fabulous park. Our schools are close enough that you can walk to them. I don't have to take 5 hours out of my day just to go to a store or a mall.

There are so many things at your fingertips in Philly!

Then there is the historical parts of Philadelphia that I just love. I get chills sometimes walking through historical places in Philly knowing that Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and Thomas Jefferson were walking through those same halls and walkways. There is always something to see, something new to learn. There are so many museums, parks, South Street, Penn's Landing, and neat little out of the way places in Philly to find something to do. You will never ever be bored here!

I just could never ever see myself leaving here. I'm not a suburbs kind of girl.
I'd miss this place too much!

  1. I've never spent any time in Philadelphia although I would love to visit all of the historical places. And my husband would love the excess of pizza places!

  2. Great post! And oh so true. This one goes in my "best of the week" roundup for this weekend. (And how apropos, given that it is July 4.)

  5. Karen, if I could get them to you without them melting or tasting like crap, I would. But those are things you have to experience fresh! When you come here I'll treat you to everything!!
